Performance Reviews & Appraisals

Employee Performance Review & Appraisal Software

Whether your organisation calls it a performance review or a performance appraisal, it should be the most important conversation of the year — not a forms-filling exercise. CLEAR Talent automates the admin (reminders, roll-ups, reports) so managers spend their time coaching, not chasing, and every rating is fair, fast and defensible.

Reimagined cycle

The review cycle, reimagined

Most review tools are glorified form builders. CLEAR Talent orchestrates the entire cycle: self-review → 360° feedback → manager review → calibration → final rating → signed-off report.

Automated reminders. Configurable workflows. Zero chase emails.

Section 1
One review

Three data streams, one review

All three combine into a single, defensible composite rating.

Goal achievement

Scores roll up from SLG automatically; no re-entry.

Competency ratings

Evidence-based CAF ratings, with optional behavioural evidence required.

360° feedback

Structured input from peers, reports and stakeholders, weighted by your policy.

Section 2
Bias-killing tools

Calibration tools that kill rating bias

Calibration meetings use live heatmaps, forced-distribution simulations, and outlier flags to surface inconsistent ratings across managers before they go final.

Your HRBPs get the evidence they need to challenge a rating — or defend it.

Section 3
Outputs

Auto-generated review reports — PDF and Excel

One click produces a board-ready PDF for each employee or a roll-up Excel export for HR analytics. Formatting is consistent, branded, and audit-ready.

Section 4
Defensibility

Audit trail for every rating, every comment

Every change — who, what, when — is logged immutably. Defensible under internal audit, works-council review, or legal discovery.

Is performance review software the same as performance appraisal software?
Yes. Many UK, Irish and European organisations call the formal review an appraisal, while others say performance review or evaluation; the cycle underneath is the same. CLEAR Talent runs it end to end — self-review, 360° feedback, manager review, calibration, final rating and a signed-off report — whichever name your organisation uses in its policy and its review forms.
Can we run mid-year and end-of-year reviews?
Yes. You can run as many cycles as you need — mid-year, year-end or quarterly — each with its own configurable template. Every stage, from goal setting and self-assessment to manager review, calibration and final rating, opens and closes on the dates you set, and automated reminders keep each stage moving, so HR is not chasing forms by email.
How is the overall performance rating calculated?
It combines three streams: goal achievement rolled up from the goals and KPIs set during the year, evidence-based competency ratings, and structured 360° feedback. You configure how much each stream counts, and the balance between goals and competencies can differ by level, so a senior leader's rating can lean more on goals and a new starter's more on competencies. The result is one composite rating with its evidence attached.
How does calibration work, and is forced distribution required?
Before ratings go final, calibration sessions show live heatmaps of ratings across managers and teams, flag outliers and let you simulate a forced distribution to see where ratings cluster. That surfaces a manager who rates everyone highly, or a team rated far below its peers, while there is still time to discuss it. Forced distribution is an optional guardrail and never mandatory.
Can employees see their full review?
Yes. Once the manager releases the review, the employee sees all of their competency ratings and every narrative section, so the person it describes can see what the rating rests on. Every change made during the cycle — who changed what, and when — is recorded in the audit log, and the finished review can be exported as a PDF.
What will a works council want to know about the review process?
In some EU countries a performance evaluation system can require works council consultation or consent before it goes live, so take advice from your employment counsel. CLEAR Talent makes the answers concrete: role-based access with managers working within their own reporting line, anonymity thresholds on 360° feedback, stages that close on fixed dates, and an audit log of every rating change.
